Rolling Average
Also known as: 8-Week Rolling Avg
Moving average of prior 8 valid Sundays; smooths outliers.
The rolling average in Kingdom Metrics is the arithmetic mean of the most recent 8 valid Sunday attendance counts. "Valid" means Sundays where a count was successfully captured — holidays with no service, technical outages, or skipped weeks are excluded from the window.
The 8-week window is intentional. It is long enough to smooth out a single bad (or great) Sunday, but short enough to remain responsive to genuine trend changes. It serves as the baseline for the Growth Index, material spike detection, and capacity utilization calculations.
Why it matters for your church: If you have ever looked at a single Sunday's attendance and wondered "is that good or bad?", the rolling average gives you context. It is the steady-state number that your weekly counts fluctuate around, and it is the foundation for almost every other metric Kingdom Metrics produces.
